Dr Andrew Molwane

Dr. Andrew B. Molwane is an educationist who has operated for over 30 years in the education and training field. Six (6) of these were spent as a teacher at secondary school and subsequently as head of English Department. Dr. Molwane spent fifteen (15) years working as a trainer of secondary school teachers, inclusive of his role as a college deputy principal at Tonota College of Education and later at Molepolole College of Education. For seven (7) years he coordinated two major projects for the Ministry of Education and Skills Development: (i) the Teacher Supply and Demand for Botswana Primary and Secondary Schools: 2006—2016 and (ii) The establishment of the National Credit and Qualifications Framework (NCQF) where he served as the lead person in the NCQF Implementation Committee. He was instrumental in the establishment of the National Credit and Qualifications Framework Unit. He also coordinated the development of the Botswana Qualifications Authority Bill which led to the enactment and promulgation of the Botswana Qualifications Authority Act of 2013. This milestone resulted in the establishment of the entity now called the Botswana Qualifications Authority (BQA). 

During the development of the National Credit and Qualifications Framework, from 2008 to 2015, Dr. Molwane was the country representative in the SADC Technical Committee on Accreditation and Certification (TCCA). He participated in several major projects while serving in the Committee. Notable among these were the drafting of the report on qualifications in the SADC Region, the drafting of regional guidelines on quality assurance in the education sector for the SADC region, making input in the Revised Arusha Convention on Recognition of Studies and Degrees in the African Continent, making an input in the development of SADC Portal on qualifications etc.

In addition to the above Dr. Molwane also participated in the development of the National Curriculum and Assessment Framework (NCAF), where he provided guidance to ensure that NCAF was aligned to the National Credit and Qualifications Framework (NCQF). 

Dr Molwane is a member of the Human Resource Development Council Board. He also serves in two committees of the Board, the Funding Committee and the HRD Planning Committee.

Dr Molwane has co-authored several social studies text books for primary and secondary schools. These include the following: Exploring Social Studies (Books 1,2 and 3) published by Heinemann, Exploring Social Studies (Books 1,2 and 3) published by Pearson, Botswana Social Studies for Std 5, 6 and 7 published by Medi Publishing House.

Dr. Molwane holds a PhD with a major in Curriculum and Instruction and a Minor in Instructional Systems Technology from Indiana University (USA), a Masters in Science Education from Indiana University (USA), a Masters of Arts in Education (Computers in Education) from the University of London, a Bachelor of Arts and a Concurrent Diploma in Education from the University of Botswana and Swaziland.
