Work-Place Planning and Learning

The Human Resource Development Council (HRDC) has a responsibility to advice on the Management and Planning of Workplace Learning and reimbursement of employers through the Human Resource Development Fund.

Workplace Learning means structured skills training and development strategies that are provided at the workplace.

These may include the following but are not limited to:

  • Apprenticeship;
  • Learnership
  • Traineeship
  • Internship

ADVANTAGES OF WORKPLACE LEARNING

  • Relevant skills developed, and aligned to the world of work and workplace mandate.
  • Reimbursable training costs incurred from the training intervention through the Human Resource Development Fund (HRDF).
  • Motivated workforce

ROLE OF WORKPLACE LEARNING

  • Support and promote acquisition of relevant skills at workplace.
  • Align skills and competencies to the skills Training plan as informed by the National and Sector Human Resource Development Plans.
  • Promote and encourage Research and Innovation initiatives geared towards achieving the National Human Resource Development Strategy (NHRDS).

PRE APPROVAL OF REQUIREMENTS:

  • Letter of justification for approval of proposed training.
  • Provide Skills training Plan and Annual Training Report.
  • If training is to be outsourced, provide evidence of Training Provider’s accreditation status.
  • List of learners undertaking proposed training and copies of identity documents.

WORKS SKILLS PLANS

  • Work skills plans describe an organisation’s training and skills development strategy that will help it to meet its overall objectives and targets
  • Useful Strategy for achieving professional growth.
  • Support and promote acquisition of relevant skills at workplaces.
  • Coordinate and direct the implementation of skills development interventions.
  • Supports training opportunities in the workplace for employees to acquire the essential skills to do their jobs competently, safely and productively. 
  • Acts as continuous improvement tools for feedback and assessment activities.

SUBMISSION OF WORK SKILLS PLANS

  • Done at the beginning of the financial year
  • Cover training activities over the planned period
